Today Moon Phase 13 October 2023
The moon is 28 days old and located in the sign of Libra. During this phase, the moon is moving closer to the Sun as seen from Earth, and the night side of the moon is facing our planet, resulting in a diminishing crescent of illumination.
The Waning Crescent moon will rise around midnight, transit the meridian after sunrise, and set after noon. The best time to view this phase is 1-2 hours before sunrise, providing an excellent opportunity to observe the moon’s surface features.
Along the illuminated crescent, the craters and mountains of the moon cast long shadows. The Waxing Gibbous phase, like all moon phases, lasts just over 7 days. However, the actual length may vary due to the elliptical shape of the moon’s orbit.
During the Waxing Gibbous phase, the moon rises in the east during the mid- to late-afternoon and remains high in the eastern sky at sunset. Assuming clear weather conditions, the Waxing Gibbous moon will be visible throughout most of the night before setting shortly before sunrise.
